Prof. Shaojun Wei Gives a Keynote Speech at the 54th Design Automation Conference, Team Essay Shortlisted as the Best Paper Candidate


On 19 June, Prof. Shaojun Wei gave a 30-minute speech titled as “China's IC Industry: Today and Tomorrow - Its Influence on Global Design and Design Automation Community” at the 54th Design Automation Conference (DAC 2017) held in the city of Austen, Texas, US. It is the first time a Chinese scholar giving a keynote speech at the international conference.

Prof. Shaojun Wei is giving a speech

In recent years, the rapid developing integrated circuit technologies and industry in China has come to be increasingly influential and has received enormous attention from overseas audiences. In Prof. Shaojun Wei’s speech, he introduced the current situation and future goals of Chinese integrated circuit technologies and industry with objectivity and abundant facts. He focused on analyzing the impact of the recent technology and industry development in China on the global integrated circuit design. In particular, he shared important technological breakthroughs in the field of configurable computing and related application in information security and artificial intelligence area made by the Nanoelectronics department, Tsinghua University. More than 100 audience listened to the speech. After the conference, Prof. Shaojun Wei also engaged in a vibrant conversation with some of the audience. EE Times, an internationally renowned professional media reported extensively about the event.

During the conference, the configurable computing team of Tsinghua University Nanoelectronics Department led by Prof. Shaojun Wei published five papers. Prof. Leibo Liu and Prof. Shouyi Yi, the core members of the team, are respectively the correspondence authors of two of the papers and the other three papers. Among which, the paper titled asA 700fps Optimized Coarse-to-Fine Shape Searching Based Hardware Accelerator for Face Alignmentjointly compiled by the first author Qiang Wang and the correspondence author Prof. Leibo Liu was shortlisted as the Best Paper Candidate.

The Design and Automation Conference (DAC) is the most internationally influential annual academic event for integrated circuit and design automation discipline. It is the 54th session of DAC this year. On average, over 1,000 people attend the conference per year. Worldwide, DAC is highly regarded by scholars and researchers in the specific field. The year, the conference received approximately 700 submissions from all around the world with 160 shortlisted papers and 14 nominated as the Best Paper Candidate. In the past 50 years, only 8 papers with the first author coming from mainland China received the nomination of the Best Paper Candidate.
